Robert Hurley seizes Men’s 400m freestyle title – FINA Swimming World Cup, Singapore
Robert Hurley of Australia seized gold medal of the Men’s 400m freestyle on opening day of the concluding stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Singapore, Asia on Saturday, November 10.
Hurley dictated terms to his opponents in the mediocre distant freestyle discipline as he showed his urgency towards the finishing blockade for the title.
With his persistent efforts, Hurley enjoyed a lead of more than one body length over his closest competitor and hit the wall for the crown by producing an effort of 3 minutes and 41.01 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Matthew Stanley of New Zealand, who was 1.16 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end for silver medal by reporting a time of 3 minutes and 42.17 seconds.
Stanley was traced by Jarrod Killey of Australia, who was nearly two body lengths behind and rushed his way towards the finishing wall for third position by clocking a time of 3 minutes and 43.92 seconds.
Subsequently, Killey was chased by Dominik Meichtry of Switzerland, who remained 0.26 seconds slower and emerged on the wall for fourth position by posting a time of 3 minutes and 44.18 seconds.
Meichtry was traced by Ieuan Lloyd of Great Britain, who stayed nearly three seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and reached the finishing wall for fifth position by posting a time of 3 minutes and 47.15 seconds.
Sixth best spot of the race was secured by Mark Randall of South Africa, who was 0.74 seconds behind and concluded his race in a time of 3 minutes and 47.89 seconds.
Randall was trailed by MacKenzie Horton of Australia, who was 2.37 seconds away from his preceding swimmer and completed his race in seventh place by posting a time of 3 minutes and 50.26 seconds.
Eighth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Shane Asbury of Australia, who stayed nearly three seconds slower from his former finisher and clocked an effort of 3 minutes and 53.12 seconds.
In addition, Hurley received a huge round of applause from the audience for his notable efforts at the prize ceremony.
