Robert Hurley snares Men’s 50m backstroke gold - FINA Swimming Championships (25m)
Robert Hurley of Australia snared gold medal of the Men’s 50m backstroke on fourth day of the 2012 FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) at Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul, Turkey, on Saturday, December 15.
The Australian swimmer showed no leniency to his opponents in the shortest backstroke discipline and paved his way to the finishing end for gold medal.
Hurley faced tough contest from the American specialist, Matthew Grevers but with his notable form, he managed to escape him over the finishing wall for gold medal with a wonderful effort of 23.04 seconds.
The champion was followed by Grevers, who stayed 0.13 seconds slower from him over the finishing wall and secured silver medal by clocking an effort of 23.17 seconds for silver medal.
Third spot of the race was obtained by Stanislav Donets of Russia, who stayed 0.02 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and secured bronze medal of the race by producing an effort of 23.19 seconds.
Donets was followed by Guilherme Guido of Brazil, who remained 0.06 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end for fourth position by touching the wall with an effort of 23.25 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Ashley Delaney of Australia, who stayed 0.17 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall with the timing of 23.42 seconds.
Sixth spot of the race was obtained by Xiaolei Sun of China, who suffered a deficit of 0.01 seconds over his former finisher and transpired on the wall by submitting an effort of 23.43 seconds.
Sun was chased by Daniel Orzechowski of Brazil, who stayed 0.04 seconds apart and touched the wall with the timing of 23.47 seconds for seventh position.
Eighth position of the race was obtained by Iskender Baslakov of Turkey, who remained only 0.02 seconds away from upsetting his foregoing finisher and clocked a time of 23.49 seconds.
In addition, Hurley was extremely pleased with his top finish in the backstroke discipline and stated that he would try his level best to please his supporters by accomplishing the title of the same event at upcoming swimming competitions.
