Robert Kubica finally out of intensive care of the Santa Corona hospital
According to the team, Robert Kubica has been released from the Santa Corona hospital’s intensive care.
Robert went through a horrific accident during a rally event this weekend and almost lost his right hand as a result. The Pole went through a couple of surgeries and it seems that the next few days are going to be very important for his recovery.
The doctors revealed that his right hand’s nervous system might not function properly at all ever again and it seems that he might not be able to drive a Formula 1 car ever again if the surgeries on his right hand fail.
The first operation was quite long and difficult for the doctors and they are still not sure whether the operation succeeded or failed.
The condition of his right hand after the accident was so threatening that the doctors at first believed that there was no other solution but cutting his hand off from his arm.
It was also revealed recently that the Polish driver would go through another surgery soon, on his upper right arm.
Many blamed Kubica's team Lotus Renault GP for the current state he is in, as most of the teams clearly state in their official contracts that their drivers would not be allowed to race in Rally since it is dangerous. However, for Robert Kubica’s contract,
Renault did not include this clause and as a result, Kubica was not legally obstructed from rallying unlike other drivers.
Many criticized Lotus Renault GP for not being 'protective' of Robert Kubica as he is one of the most promising new comers in the sport, and it was expected that he might even be one of the top contenders for the 2011 Formula 1 season. Robert finished
in 1st place at the first pre-season test session that took place in Valencia on the 1st of February, 2011.
Lotus Renault GP now has to choose another driver for the 2011 Formula 1 season and it is believed that it is going to be either Nick Heidfeld or Bruno Senna.
