Robert Kubica has proceeded to phase 2 of his recovery – Eric Boullier
According to a recent statement by Lotus Renault GP’s boss, Eric Boullier, it has been revealed that Robert Kubica, Renault’s former driver, who went through a near fatal accident during a rally event on February 6, 2011, is recovering and has now successfully
reached phase 2 of his recovery.
“Robert has made another step forward in his rehabilitation process and doctors are pleasantly surprised by the way in which his condition is improving”, Boullier said.
Eric visited the young Polish driver, following the Turkish Grand Prix, where he was told that Kubica recently had to go through another routine operation in order to remove the unavoidable adhesions that were affecting the functionality of his arm muscles.
The team has released a statement claiming that his recovery is going according to the doctor’s planning and that the 2nd phase of his recovery is going to require some “heavy rehabilitation”.
“Now, it is a matter of time and even if patience isn't Robert's first quality, he is fully aware that rehabilitation could be quite a long process”, said the team boss.
Other than that, he stated that Kubica is still a part of the team and he is being briefed about the team’s progress regarding its car on a regular basis.
“Robert is still very much involved, keeping in touch with his engineers, and we have been keeping him informed of every important decision the team has taken. He may not be with us all of the time this year, but he's very much a part of the Lotus Renault
GP family”, he added.
Robert gave an exceptional performance during the 2010 Formula 1 season as he scored a couple of podiums during the first half of the season keeping in mind that his Renault back then was not strong and that Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull were actively competing
against each other during that time.
This year, fans and team members were expecting even more from him but it seems that it was just not meant to be as the team had to replace him with Nick Heidfeld, as a result of his accident.
