Robert Kubica leaves hospital to carry on his rehabilitation process – Formula 1 Update
The Polish driver, Robert Kubica, has left the Italian Medical Facility, Santa Corona, after almost 11 weeks under observation following his horrific crash during a rally race in the earlier part of the year.
Robert will move to his house in Monaco and then will spend some time with Dr [Riccardo] Ceccarelli's in his medical facility in Italy.
Renault driver, Kubica was severely injured when he crashed his Skoda Fabia in a guard rail while competing in a local rally in Italy. He severely damaged his right hand and sustained injuries to his right leg and shoulder. The Pole underwent four major
operations after being hospitalised but now his condition is marked as okay.
The Hospital correspondent said, “Robert Kubica is no longer at Santa Corona Hospital in Pietra Ligure. His condition is good and the driver will be able to begin a new rehabilitation phase outside the hospital.” The hospital further added that doctors form
the hospital will give the Kubica a weekly review in his house.
Kubica’s doctor, Ceccarelli, has made it clear that come August 2011, it will be revealed that whether or not, Robert will be able to sustain heavy pressure to his right arm, driving a Formula 1 car. Before that, Kubica will carry on small level exercises
to strengthen his arm muscles.
Robert had a spectacular and an almost fatal accident in the 2007 Canadian Grand Prix when his car was lifted in the air before being torn to shreds. The Pole walked away from the accident with a slight concussion and bruises.
However this time, Robert will take almost a year to make it into the Renault team, as they have opted to go for German Driver, Nick Heidfeld, to drive along side inexperienced Russian driver, Vitaly Petrov.
So far, the Renault team have done exceptionally well to score two podiums in the first three races of the 2011 Formula 1 season, but Kubica is not going to sit back and enjoy the race prospects as he is anxious to get in the Renault car, R31.
For now, the Pole is using a walker to move around and with his current situation, it is not hard to judge that Heidfeld will get lots of time to impress the Renault team.
