Robert Kubica replacing Felipe Massa in Ferrari for 2011 Rumor! Rumor!
With only two months left in the season, rumors about driver movements within the top teams for 2011 are already in full swing and Robert Kubica is again being linked with a switch to Ferrari.
Recently, a Spanish television reported that despite the existence of new contracts, Felipe Massa and Robert Kubica could still swap seats for the next season. A Swiss publication has also reporting similar rumor. Adding to this rumor is the talk of Massa
returning to the Ferrari-powered Sauber, where he began his Formula 1 career as a rookie and remained during 2002, 2004, and 2005.
“Of course, I read all the rumors, but in the end the only thing is winning. We are all here because we want to win but you need the best car for that. Currently, I am at Renault and so I am focused on this team and on improving together. In 2011, we want
to fight for the world title. We'll see what happens next”, Kubica said in an interview.
Robert admitted that he does want to race for Ferrari and hopes to do so one day. “In karting, Formula Renault and F3, I've always been with Italian teams and I even lived near Monza for more than a year. Ferrari is a team unlike any other. The emotion and
the history are unique. I think every driver would like to drive for Ferrari”, he added.
This rumor turning true might not be a surprise for many as Robert Kubica has recently been performing brilliantly with Renault. The Polish is experiencing a great season as he is at 8th spot in the drivers’ standings, just 4 points behind Nico
Rosberg, even though he isn’t driving the best of cars on the grid. Earlier, the young driver began his season with a pointless finish before scoring an impressive 2nd place in the Australian Grand Prix followed by a 4th place at the
Malaysian Grand Prix.
Robert finished 5th in China, 8th in Spanish Grand Prix while 6th at the Turkish Grand Prix after having scored his second podium on the technical Monte Carlo circuit in Monaco. The Canadian Grand Prix gave him 6 points before
a 5th place finish at the European Grand Prix in Valencia. However, the British Grand Prix proved to be a disaster for the 25-year-old, as he was forced to retire there. Robert scored another 6 points at the German Grand Prix after that.
On the other hand, Felipe Massa hasn’t been able to perform up to the mark after a life threatening accident last season that had put him out for that season’s remaining half. Massa returned in 2010 hoping that he wouldn’t settle for the second place this
time and would instead finish on the top. But that has not been the case so far as he is currently at 4th spot in the drivers’ standings behind Sebastian Vettel, who is a solid 39 points ahead of the Brazilian. Felipe has scored 4 podiums up until
now in this season. His performance has been quite disappointing despite the fact that he is driving one of the best F1 cars.
Ferrari’s decision still seems uncertain and only time would tell what the future holds for Robert Kubica and Felipe Massa.
