Robert Kubica satisfied with Spa result
Robert Kubica of Renault has expressed his jubilation over the podium victory at the Belgian Grand Prix on Saturday. Finishing third, the Pole complimented the new F-duct system on his R30, crediting it with helping the car to run at a quicker pace. Resulting in a finish which has moved the 25 year-old into seventh place in the Driver’s Championship at 104 points, Kubica commented on his joy at being able to compete with the more dominant F1 teams.
“We were fighting with the McLaren and the Red Bull drivers so I’m really pleased about the performance of the car," Kubica wrote in his Renault blog. "In fact, we had great pace all weekend and whatever the conditions we were always in the top five. And finally we got the F-duct on the car, which was working really well and gave us a big improvement with our pace. I was very happy to be fighting at the front with the big teams so let’s hope we can continue in this direction.”
Indeed, this increase of pace allowed Renault’s star driver to shine all weekend (unlike Spa’s weather) as he finished in the top five of all three practice sessions, and beat Red-Bull’s Sebastian Vettel by .02 seconds to earn third place on the grid.
Yet Kubica had second place within his grasp during the race, except for his mistake in the pit lane which allowed Red Bull’s Mark Webber to move up behind McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton. Nevertheless, the Spa-Francorchamps result is a welcome one for Renault especially, which currently sits at 123 points in the Team Championship, 23 pts behind Mercedes. As the season nears its end, Kubica and Renault will be looking to capitalize on its new technical strengths and score a few more points to round off the 2010 circuit nicely.
