Robert Kubica’s Formula 1 career at stake after accident
Lotus Renault GP’s, Robert Kubica, recently had a terrible accident during a rally event, which was held in Italy and the team recently announced that Robert won’t be able to compete in Formula 1 for the 2011 Formula 1 season as a result.
They also revealed that the injuries are so critical that the Polish driver might not be able to compete in Formula 1 ever again.
According to the director for regional centre of hand surgery at San Paolo Hospital professor, Igor Rossello, Kubica will have to go through a lengthy operation which is basically the “reconstruction of the whole anatomy of his forearm”.
However, Robert will have to take care of his hand for the next 5-7 days after the operation as things could still go wrong during this time.
“Robert's right forearm was cut in two places, with significant lesions to the bones and the tendons. We did our best to rebuild the functions of the forearm, [but] it took seven doctors, split into two teams, and a total of seven hours to complete the operation”,
he said.
The doctors believe that if they fail to perform the operation, Robert will not be able to use his hand fully and his hand could get permanently disabled.
“At the end of the operation, Robert's hand was well vascularised and warm, which is encouraging. Following the surgery, Robert will remain under permanent monitoring overnight because his condition remains serious”, said Igor.
Kubica is one of the best new drivers in Formula 1 and he has proved, within a short amount of time using an average car, that he has the ability to race alongside the top running drivers in the sport even if his team fails to provide him with the best possible
piece of machinery and package.
Robert finished in 8th place in the drivers’ standings in 2010 after scoring 3 podium positions. The young Pole was expected to be one of the top competitors for the title in 2011 and his team had come up with a very promising car for the 2011
Formula 1 season.
Renault signed a deal with Group Lotus for the next five years as their partners and main sponsors and it was expected that Renault will be one of the top running teams or the “best of the rest” in 2011.
It seems that the team will have to carry on without Robert Kubica and the most likely replacement for him at the moment is Romain Grosjean, who is the reserve driver of the team, other than Bruno Senna.
