Robert Kubica’s manager Daniele Morelli says Renault have twisted the Pole’s words – Formula 1 news
Robert Kubica’s manager Daniele Morelli has contradicted Renault’s announcement that Kubica will not be fit for the initial part of the 2012 season.
Renault recently announced that Kubica has revealed to them that he will not be available for the start of the 2012 season, and is not certain how well his rehabilitation progress is at the moment.
Morelli though has stated that Renault have twisted Kubica’s words and that he only meant to say that he will not be ready for next season tests. Another point that Kubica’s manager denied was that the Pole will not remain contracted to Renault throughout
2012.
“I don't understand why Renault has changed Robert's words,” Morelli told
Gazzetta dello Sport. “It's not true he won't be ready for 2012. He stated he doesn't have certainty that he will be in shape for the first tests in February. We count on and hope to be ready, but in any case the delay will be a few months.”
Renault team principal Eric Boullier responded in shock and said that he has no clue why Morelli has made these allegations, when Kubica’s statement was approved by him, and that he can prove it through the approval email he received from Morelli.
Although Morelli did admit that Kubica’s recovery has taken longer than initially expected, but remained optimistic for the drivers return in the near future. He further explained the nature of his condition at the moment,
“His elbow's external brace will be removed on Tuesday, so from that point on he will be free from that scrap metal. The hand's sensitivity is OK. But it's a matter of time, by the end of January the strength should be adequate,” Morelli added.
Renault have already looked into a few backup drivers, and have always maintained that if Kubica is not able to make a return for 2012 they will opt for those options. Romain Grosjean is option they have looked into for the Pole’s replacement.
It will be interesting to see who Renault finally go for, but it seems very unlikely for Kubica to make a return in the near future, as the driver was recently spotted walking with crutches. This suggests that a return for the initial Grand Prix races for
him is a little farfetched.
