Robert Lindstedt/ Horia Tecau battle past Galung/ Wassen into the final – UNICEF Open 2011
Second seeds, Swede Robert Lindstedt and Romanian Horia Tecau rallied past Dutch wild card entrants, Jesse Huta Galung and Rogier Wassen in a three set mouth watering match at Men’s Doubles – UNICEF Open 2011, a Wimbledon warm-up
tournament held in s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands. They registered a 6-2, 6-7(2), 10-7 victory over the Dutchmen on their home soil to secure a final spot on Friday.
2010 Wimbledon finalists, Lindstedt and Tecau displayed their tremendous skills and co-ordination abilities to win the match in three sets without losing a serve. They overpowered the wild card entrants by hammering nine aces in
this one hour and eighteen minutes match in front of their home crowd.
The high spirited seeded pair stormed into the opening set and bagged their entire serves through exquisite forehands from their box of tricks. They produced a similar first serve share of 68 percent but registered a spectacular
87 percent win on it. Lindstedt and Tecau converted both breakpoint chances to their advantage to clinch the opener with an assuring 6-2 score line.
Galung and Wassen raised the bar of their game in the second set. Although they failed to find any breakpoint opportunity but they were able to save all four breakpoints conceded and took the set to a tie-breaker. The unseeded
pair dominated in it to eventually seal the set with a 7-6(2) score line.
The Swede Romanian dup got back on track in the deciding Match Tie-breaker or the third set. They fished out crucial points and maintained consistency in their game to bag the set with a 10-7 win. The seeds produced a similar first
serve share of 89 percent in it and earned a fabulous 88 percent win on it.
10th ranked pair of Lindstedt and Tecau will next face the Italian Czech tandem of Daniele Bracciali and Frantisek Cermak and they are eyeing for the second ATP World Tour title of the season. The Swede Romanian team
won the title at Casablanca in April after downing Fleming and Zelenay.
Bracciali and Cermak on the other hand are just playing their second tournament together. Regardless of exiting in the opening round at Halle, the pair perfected their co-ordination to reach the final here. They even stunned third
seeds, American Eric Butorac and Curacao Jean-Julien Rojer in straight sets on their journey to final. The Italian Czech Pair just lost a single set and displayed an awesome run of form in this ATP World Tour 250 series event.
