Robert Lindstedt/ Horia Tecau qualify for debut at Barclays ATP World Tour Finals – Tennis News
The team of Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecau qualifies for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. They are the sixth team to qualify for the tournament that will be contested in O2 Arena London, the most prestigious tennis arenas
of the world.
They have never qualified for this tournament and it will be their first appearance. The Swedish/Romanian duo have qualified for this year-end champions after compiling a win-loss tally of 2-5 in ATP World Tour finals this year.
Swedish Robert Lindstedt is ranked 12 and his Romanian partner, Horia Tecau, is ranked 10 in ATP doubles ranking. They have been playing together for the two years and have developed magnificent chemistry among themselves.
Romanian is 26-year-old and his partner is 34-year-old. There game play completely complements each other. They were crowned champions Grand Prix Hassan II in Casablanca where they defeated the team of Fleming-Zelenay and the SkiStar
Swedish Open in Bastad where they defeated Aspelin-Siljestrom.
They were the runners-up at Wimbledon this year and reached the final of the second time in succession but they lost twice to the reigning doubles World No.1 twin brothers, Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan, of America.
This year, they lost in the quarter-finals of Shanghai Masters and then they reached the final of China Open but couldn’t clinch the title; they reached the quarter-finals of US Open as well and qualified for the final of Legg
Mason contested in Washington. They won Grand Prix Hassan II hosted in Casablanca.
Their glory of qualifying to this mega event was shattered when they faced a first round exit at Valencia Open 500 at the hands of Kevin Anderson and John Isner 7-6, 6-4. They were third seeded in the tournament but couldn’t make
an impression and fell for the trap. It was really disappointing for them but they promise to put up a much more fascinating show at the year-end finale.
Six spots are filled by their inclusion and only two teams can qualify now for the last two spots left. The race for the spot continues to qualify for this prestigious event. On top of the list for the hitch of last two spots are
the ‘Pak-Indo Express’ duo, Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Rohan Bopanna. They are currently World No.7 and have made their case of qualification much stronger with their recent triumph in Stockholm tournament last month.
Another team that is most likely to qualify for the grand finale is the duo from Poland, Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski. They are currently ranked World No.8 but needs to secure few points before they can confirm their
spot in the year-end championship.
It’s one of the most awaited tournaments of the year where top eight elite teams from all over the world will battle it out for the year-end title.
