Robert Marcotte, Eric Montpetit advance to semi-final of Canadian Masters Badminton Championships

Men’s Doubles campaigners, Robert Marcotte and Eric Montpetit of Canada surged into semi-final round of Yonex Canadian Masters Badminton Championships after stamping Jimmy Bass-Allan Cheng in quarter-finals on May 9, 2012.
This hard fought tussle prolonged to three sets and both teams consumed their energies for 43 minutes to place concluding figures of 21-23, 21-16 and 21-14.
The winning team came back from a rough start and served notice of their supremacy in final two games of the match as the opposing team squandered its early advantage.
Jimmy Bass and Allan Cheng, who were under-dogs earlier in this tournament, opened their race with an immediate lead in start of the first set.
They launched a brisk attack and pushed their challengers on back foot by clinching few quick points. They maintained an upper hand until the interval and put their opponents in huge pressure.
However, later part of game saw the suppressed duo Robert-Eric bouncing back with a strong backlash.
First, they narrowed the gap with some consecutive points and then equalled score by maintaining same momentum in final stage as well.
The game was at a knife’s edge when both teams entered in game point situation but Jimmy-Allan ended this tussle with a favourable margin of 23-21.
However, it was relatively an easy ride for Robert-Eric in following game as they bagged second set with a respectable five-point advantage in final total.
In first half of the set, they pushed their challengers in all areas of court and kept them at lower end with power packed rallies.
Jimmy-Allan kept trailing behind their rivals on scoreboard until the interval. They committed some fatal mistakes in later part of the game also and their opponents did not miss this chance and added some valuable points in their total.
Robert-Eric bagged second set with notable margin of 21-16.
They continued their successful run in the third and final set also and won the decider in even more impressive manner. The twosome of Robert-Eric cruised to victory with a significant total of 21-14.
Now they will test their skills against compatriot duo Eric Dufour-Jean Philippe in semi-final round of the event.
