Robert Margalis clinches Men’s 400m IM title: Day One - 2011 ConocoPhillips National Championships
Robert Margalis of FAST Swim Team-C impressed the
arena by clinching the title of Men’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) meet on the first day of the 2011 ConocoPhillips National Championships on Tuesday, August 2, in Palo Alto, California.
The meet was held at Stanford University’s Avery Aquatic Centre, where Margalis proved his dominance for the gold medal in the 400m IM, by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 15.62 seconds. His effort was 0.35 seconds faster than the second position holder,
Conor Dwyer of Lake Forest-IL, who stepped on the podium for the silver medal, by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 15.97 seconds. These top-two finishers were trailed by William Harris of Una TROJ-CA, who was prominently away from Dwyer and reported in a
third fastest time of 4 minutes and 18.48 seconds.
Margalis is also the silver medallist of 400m IM at the 2006 Pan Pacific Championships in Victoria, while he earned the same medal in 400m IM at the 2008 World Short Course Championships in Manchester.
Harris was tracked by Andrew Gemmell of Delaware Swim Team, who remained in a lead of 1.34 seconds over him and clocked a fourth fastest time of 4 minutes and 19.82 seconds. Austen Thompson of Tucson Ford Deal was the fifth fastest swimmer to conclude his
race, as he stayed only 0.06 seconds behind his former finisher and ended his swim in a time of 4 minutes and 19.88 seconds.
In the meantime, Michael Weiss of Wisconsin Aquatic emerged as the sixth fastest swimmer of the event, by posting a time of 4 minutes and 21.50 seconds. William Cregar of Athens Bulldog Swim Club surfaced as the seventh finest finisher of the meet, as he
clocked a time of 4 minutes and 21.68 seconds. He was followed by Santa Maria Swim Club’s Joshua Prenot, who earned the eight best spot with a timing of 4 minutes and 21.82 seconds.
Furthermore, Margalis expressed happiness over his comfortable win, while the podium finishers collected their medals and accolades after the session.
