Poland’s impressive shuttlers Robert Mateusiak and Nadiezda Zieba proved their elevated craft in their first contest in Mixed Doubles Group B when they overpowered their higher ranked opponents Shintaro Ikeda and Reiko Shiota of Japan at the 2012 London
Olympics on Saturday, July 28, at London, England.
Robert and Nadiezda, who are World Number 20 in Mixed Doubles world ranking, showed their aggressive skills on court and remained successful in beating Ikeda and Shiota who are positioned at number 11 in the world.
The lower ranked Polish players showed a great performance when they playing with wonderful passion and eventually emerged as the winners in straight games with a tight score on the board.
On the other hand, Ikeda and Shiota played good badminton but they badly failed to create pressure on their lower ranked rivals.
The Japanese duo failed to play dominating badminton on crucial stages and lost the match in two sets with a decent score.
In the first game, both sides played to their maximum potential and remained toe-to-toe at the initial stage.
However, Robert and Nadiezda showed their remarkable skills by taking the bird early from net and managed to take a reasonable lead until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Robert and Nadiezda continued putting up good show without sparing any chance for their higher ranked Japanese opponent to put up good show.
The Polish shuttlers remained positive in their execution of shots and managed to grab the set with a three-point margin of 21-18.
In the second game, Ikeda and Shiota put up superb show of composed badminton as they played with precision and did not let their Polish rivals to take any lead in the opening half.
After the one-minute interval, both sides continued putting in their best effort and remained close on score board until the ending phase of the second set.
The score was 20-20 when Robert and Nadiezda showed a brilliant show and played attacking strokes which helped them to take the finishing points and they took the set with a 22-20 score on the board.
Robert and Nadiezda won their first contest in the event in a thrilling fashion with a tight score of 21-18 and 22-20.
