Robert Milkins books quarter-final spot beating Judd Trump in Round 2 of 2012 Wuxi Classic
England’s Robert Milkins stunned the winner of the 2011 UK Championship winner, compatriot Judd Trump in the second round clash of the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker tournament at the Wuxi Sports Center arena in Wuxi, China. The Englishman sprang back into the
game while he was trailing 1-3 and fired some outstanding snooker breaks to claim the match victory by the score line of 5-3.
Milkins was under immense pressure when he entered the arena to begin his match against Trump. The 22-year-old Trump took advantage of the situation and cruised into 1-3 lead firing some tremendous knocks of 137 and 52. Trump seemed in full swing and was
performing tremendously in the first session. It looked like he is fulfilling his words that he spoke after winning the first round match.
However, Trump’s dominance in the match was challenged by Milkins when the pair started the second session of the second round encounter. Milkins showed great determination against Trump while the 2011 UK Championship winner played a little easy which cost
him dearly. Milkins cashed the opportunity and brought some fireworks in the arena to win four straight frames which finished the match in his favour.
In his post match interview with World Snooker, Milkins said, “Funnily enough, at the interval I felt like the game was gone because Judd had looked so sharp, apart from the first frame where he missed a couple. But he looked so sharp, his safety was unbelievable
and it just didn't look like I was going to get back into the game.”
The English potter added, “I got myself together and hung in there and got back to 3-2, I could've gone 4-1 down, and then after that it sort of turned. It's just nice to win a game like that to tell you the truth.”
Milkins has now made his way successfully into the quarter-final stage of the tournament where he will be meeting the winner of the second round match between Joe Perry and Ricky Walden. Whoever he faces, the game will be interesting because the event has
produced superb clashes so far and at this level of the game, all players are fully focused on winning.
