  1. The McCanns are still official suspects and they won an award from the Newspapers - and his status as a suspect will be dropped when the case is dropped...

  2. It sicken me to see him smirking and strutting for the cameras.

All that money made from such a tragic situation involving a child who is little more than a baby.

    Disgusting!!!

  3. Yes because what the English papers published was all a load of rubbish with no foundation.

  4. why shud he  he is the most likely suspect to date  why shud he get payed out and fat chance by Portugal  deport him first lol let him try stupid police might  look in to him further  shud of done it first time

  5. I am in agreement that RM is to receive a settlement from the papers.  They should be penalised for publishing what surely amounts to libellous material until proven otherwise in a court.  This sort of irresponsible coverage can send innocent people to prison and bias cases either way, not only high profile ones like this.  The parents have received settlements, quite rightly so, for the same reasons.  If..... and I do not want to be libellous here, anything was ever proved, then I am sure it would be overruled.  As the media are not appealing, we can take it they do not have a strong case?

  6. I don't think the man should be gaining one penny from Madeleines tragic situation.

You are right , he is still NUMBER ONE suspect.

  7. The newspapers invented stories about him. They wanted to sell more copies of their rags and didn't care if they ruined a mans reputation in the process. There's no evidence that he did anything wrong.

  8. Yes, he deserves compensation for the way he's been slandered.  If it was ever proven he was responsible the newspapers would be able to sue him to have their money returned.  Mighty big if, though.

  9. The Portuguese police completed their inquiries at the beginning of the month without charging anyone, so I would of thought that sort of cleared him. I think the crux of the libel case is the fact that the press printed that he had pictures of child pornography on his computer. The press never had any concrete evidence of this and went ahead with the story anyway. They basically painted him as a paedophile, printed his picture with the story and gave details of his ex and his daughter! It's a prime example of fueling vigilateism.

I don't see why he shouldn't be paid out as he has not been charged. The McCanns sued successfully and they were still 'arguidos' and the Portuguese investigation was still active.

  10. Ever heard of 'innocent until proven guilty'?

If the papers were allowed to get away with this no one would ever get a fair trial.

  11. The only thing that Robert Murat did was to try to help the investigation by acting as an interpreter. He has steadfastly remained in Portugal and available to the PJ in contrast to the McCanns who beat a hasty retreat as soon as they became arguidos. They refused to answer at least fourty of the questions that were asked by the PJ and have done nothing whatsoever to assist the PJ in their enquiries since the day that they left Portugal. In fact they refused to assist in the reconstruction of events and have actively hindered the PJ. Murats life has turned into a nightmare because of unfounded and spurious allegations made, not by any independent witness but by members of the Tapas nine who were frantically looking for scapegoats at the time to cover their own actions.
