Robert Rock and Peter Lawrie finish tied for the 16th position at the Spanish Open
Robert Rock and Peter Lawrie finished tied for the 16th position at the Spanish Open, as they scored average throughout the four rounds in Seville, Spain.
Francesco Molinari is the winner of the tournament. The Italian professional golfer scored an 8-under 280 and displayed a bogey-free performance in the final round on Sunday.
After winning the title in Spain, Molinari is now confident that he can make it to the 2012 Ryder Cup in September. Experts said that he only has to record good scores in the upcoming tournaments, if he wants to stay strong as a pro star.
"I just have to play the same golf a few more weeks and hopefully I will be there," Molinari said after winning the title of the Spanish Open. "Everybody is desperate to make the team, but unfortunately for us there are only 12 spots".
The Englishman, Rock, started the round on Thursday and scored a 4-under 68 in the first round. He shot four birdies, two amazing eagles, two bogeys and one double-bogey till the end of the day.
In the second round, he scored three birdies and bogeys. He was unable to hit under par scores on Friday. He lost his focus on Saturday and finished the third round by scoring a 4-over 76.
In the final round, he finished again at par and tied with four other professionals. The 38-year-old Irish Lawrie also matched the scores and displayed a consistent performance throughout the event.
More importantly, he shot -1, +1, -1 and +1 in the four rounds. He scored 16 impressive birdies, 14 bogeys and a double-bogey at the European Tour staged event in Spain.
Since turning professional in 1997, Lawrie has been facing trouble posting good scores. He has won only two events so far. His first victory was recorded at the Challenge Tour Grand Final in 2002 and then he added another win in 2008, at the Spanish Open.
Experts also said that he needs to practise. His swing, putting, strokes and performance on the greens require improvements and that can only be achieved through practice.
Similarly, since turning professional in 1998, Rock has also recorded only two victories. He is the winner of the 2011 BMW Italian Open and 2012 Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship.
If he improves his performances on the golf courses, he can impress the spectators and his fans in the upcoming European Tour events.
