Robert Rock marvels the crowd in the opening round of BMW Italian Open with a 64
Robert Rock fired a score of 8-under par 64 to take a lead in the opening round of €1,500,000-BMW Italian Open. The European Tour event is taking place at the par-72 Royal Park Golf Club in Turin, Italy.
The 34-year-old from Staffordshire, Rock teed off from the back and clamped three birdies against one bogey. The start was brilliant, as the crowd saw the player birdie some of the toughest holes on the course. Utilizing the confidence
earned from the closing nine holes, the player proceeded towards the front and stunned the crowd with his birdie-catching ability, which left him standing on the top of the leader board with a score of 64.
The player, who turned pro in 1998, started the birdie-fiesta from the par-4 third hole and proceeded further to amuse the crowd with his sheer accuracy in putting and driving. With a gap of two greens, the player fired five back-to-back
birdies and joined Chris Woods at the top.
The Englishman marched towards the clubhouse with a big smile on his face. When asked to comment on his game, he said, “I holed quite a lot of putts today, which is something that has been testing me over the last couple of months.
Tee to green my game has been good. Driving the ball well for a long time and my iron play has been okay. My short game hasn't been so hot, and at Wentworth I was bottom of the putting stats for the whole week and that was disappointing.”
He also shed light on the problems he had been facing in past couple of seasons. He said that his short game had been giving him a tough time. It was because of inaccurate putting that he finished in the third place after stepping
into the final round as the leader.
Rock thanked all his supporters and all the players, who had been helping him out with his game. He explained that the significant change in his game was due to the precious suggestions he had been getting.
The player was joined by Wood who clawed six birdies and one eagle to compile a similar score.
