Robert Rock returns to the field of the BMW Italian Open for the title defence
Robert Rock will return to action at the BMW Italian Open presented by CartaSi, in a bid to defend his title that he won 12 months ago at the Royal Park I Roveri.
Last year, the tournament was held in June and Rock finally succeeded in recording the first professional victory of his career, after defeating Gary Boyd and Thorbjørn Olesen with a one-stroke margin.
Right after seven months, he once again ended a tournament with the top most position on the leaderboard. He took the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship title home, after recording a one-stroke margin victory over the current world number one, Rory McIlroy.
Afterwards, he lost his form, following the swing changes that he made in the past few months.
“I’ve been reliving the last round in my head quite a bit this week,” said Rock. “The week after I qualified for the US Open, so it was a good couple of weeks”.
“I’ve take quite a bit of time off to practise hard in the last two or three weeks,” he added. “Then I came here and had a slight problem in my back – I think just from sleeping badly”.
“I scored well in the Pro-Am this morning, even though my swing was a little uncomfortable. The driver was a little difficult on the follow-through, but I’ll dose up on painkillers and get through”.
He himself admitted that he made a mistake by changing his swing technique, when he was enjoying the best of his forms on the tour. He stated that he should have tried the new swing technique when he had some time off from the tour.
According to him, he can get back to his form really soon, if given the chance to contend continuously in the rest of the season and the early stages of 2013.
Overall, the Englishman has, no doubt, the potential to challenge his opponents in any part of the world.
Although he is not among the favourites to win the tournament this week, he definitely can give a tough challenge to his opponents because of his strong game on the greens.
