Robert Rock takes the second round lead at BMW Italian Open
BMW Italian Open, presented by CartaSi, has stepped into the third round with Robert Rock in the lead. The €1,500,000-European Tour event is taking place at the par-72 Royal Park Golf Club in Turin, Italy.
The 34-year-old Englishman, Rock teed-off from the front and reeled two back-to-back birdies starting from the second hole and wrapped it with a score of 2-under par 34. The player, yet to win on the European tour, marched towards the back nine, but could
not tee-off, as the tour officials decided to blow the horn to bring the round to a halt, owing to bad weather.
After a delay of one hour and twenty minutes, the round was resumed and Rock along with his caddie made his way to the course to complete his round. Despite facing resistance from the wet greens, Rock managed to birdie two holes in the start to break the
pressure created by the inclement conditions. After relishing success in accomplishing the goal, the player birdied one more hole at the back and sealed the day with a score of 2-under par 68.
The player gave the credit of his steadiness to his confidence in his putting. He said, “I putted really well yesterday but today I hit a few that came up short of the hole. If I am watching it from halfway it’s usually pretty good. I hope I can keep this
feel for the next couple of days here and take that into the US Open next week - that would be great.”
He also shed light on his contention on the US Open. He said that he was excited on being part of the field, and had been working hard to savour the honour. He stated, “I’m excited about playing the US Open. All I can do is work hard and keep practising
and hope that a win will eventually happen.”
Rock thrice finished runner-up on the European tour, but did not have the chance to lift a trophy. However, this time, it seems the player is about to change the course of fate by being the strongest long game player on the field.
