Robert Stieglitz defends WBO super middleweight title against Nader Hamdan – Boxing news
Robert Stieglitz, the WBO super middleweight champion, outclassed his Aussie opponent Nader Hamdan, the current WBO Asia Pacific super middleweight champion, and collected a unanimous decision win to successfully defend his title, in a 12-round bout held
on May 5, 2012.
The duo met at the Messehalle arena situated in Erfurt, Thuringen, Germany and fought on the undercard of the pay-per-view jointly promoted by Wilfried Sauerland of Sauerland Event and Ulf Steinforth of Sport Events Steinforth. The event was headlined by
the much anticipated bout between Marco Huck and Ola Afolabi.
The Saturday night extravaganza also witnessed the epic clash between Alexander Dimitrenko and Kubrat Pulev. Robert, 30, proudly resides at the fourth seat in World boxing Organisation’s super middleweight rankings.
The German proud was entering in his career’s 44th bout and boasted 41 wins. The orthodox Stieglitz has collected 23 of his wins by sheer knockout and is also notorious for having a stiff jab that can easily knockout even the best men in the business.
The bout was of pivotal importance for Robert not only because he was bound to defend his title but also it would give him a chance to take on Arthur Abraham, the WBO European super middleweight champion.
His Saturday night opponent, Nader, 38, is a veteran who was in his 54th bout. Hamdan, also known as The ‘Lionheart’, has collected 43 wins in his career and 18 of them via knockout.
After four consecutive dismal performances, Nader was able to break the bad spell and collected a unanimous decision win over Daniel Pawsey in his last bout, a fight in which he also grabbed the WBO Asia Pacific super middleweight title.
Despite being experienced, Nader seriously lacked the ability to collect a swift knockout win and above all was getting old and hence the age and fatigue factor was also there to hamper his performance.
The whole bout was authoritatively led by Robert from the very beginning and Nader did not put forth much resistance. In addition, Hamdan did not use his footwork optimally and kept on coming as an easy target towards Robert in a straight line.
This aspect gave much leverage to the German pounder who pummelled Nader with great force every time when he entered his range. Robert literally outclassed Hamdan in almost all the facets of the sport and the bout seemed like a one-sided sparring session.
Even the 120-108, 117-111, and 117-111 score allocated by the three designated judges proved that Robert won all the rounds easily with quite a big margin. With this win Robert has collected his 42nd win and is now scheduled to take on Arthur Abraham on
August 25, 2012.
Hamdan, on the other hand, is now again on the lose track and has received his career’s 10th loss.
