Robert Stieglitz ready to defend his WBO super middleweight title against Nader Hamdan – Boxing News
Robert Stieglitz, the current WBO super middleweight champion, who was furious over the fact that no one was willing to face him, has finally found his opponent. The champion will now defend his title against the Aussie Nader Hamdan, the WBO Asia Pacific
super middleweight champion.
The announcement was made by Ulf Steinforth of Sports Events Steinforth who is promoting the event alongside Wilfried Sauerland of Sauerland Events. The ring for the bout will be stretched at Messehalle situated in Erfurt, Thuringen, Germany.
The above duo will fight in the undercard of the epic pay-per-view which is being headlined by the WBO cruiserweight championship bout between Marco Huck and Ola Afolabi and will witness Alexander Dimitrenko and Kubrat Pulev take on each other for the vacant
EBU (European) heavyweight title hence constituting the co-main event of the Saturday night showdown.
It must be kept in mind that Nader is the third opponent who has been scheduled to take on Robert. Before Hamdan, Robert was arranged to defend his title against former champion Mikkel Kessler and George Groves.
Both men pulled out of the bout due to injuries sustained during the sparring session. Later on, after vigorous search, Ulf finally found Nader available for the bout who, when the offer was made, happily accepted the invitation.
Ulf, while sharing his thoughts about the current man Nader and the problems faced in searching an apropos opponent, commented, “After the short-term pullout of Groves, it was no easy task to fight a trained and fight-ready opponent from the WBO world rankings.
But Nader Hamdan was luckily in intensive preparations for an Asia-Pacific title defense and could stop in immediately. Now the fight is perfect,”
At the same time Robert is also now happy and shared his excitement commenting that he now feels a little aggressive as Nader is a brilliant opponent. The German proud Robert commented, “Now I feel a tingling excitement, because this is a really good fight.”
Later on, Stieglitz also shared his resolve and ambition stating that he just wants to grab a win in this fight. Robert remarked, “A victory for me in Erfurt is currently the most important thing in my life. Finally, Arthur Abraham is all lined up to fight
me. He’ll have that chance, but I must win in Erfurt.”
Robert, 30, will defend his title for the sixth time in a row and will enter in his career’s 44th bout against Nader, who himself is a veteran and will be in his illustrious career’s 54th bout.
The German orthodox has emerged victorious in 41 bouts and boasts 23 of his wins by knockout whereas Nader has collected 43 wins and just 18 of them via KO. At the moment the odds are undoubtedly in favour of Robert who is on a continuous win streak and
has obliterated many men with hefty experience.
