Robert Stieglitz to defend his WBO title for the seventh time against Arthur Abraham – Boxing News
Robert Stieglitz, the current WBO super middleweight champion, has been scheduled to defend his title for the seventh consecutive time against fellow countryman Arthur Abraham, the current WBO European super middleweight champion, in a 12-round bout which
will be held on August 25, 2012.
The duo will headline the pay-per-view jointly organised and promoted by Chris Meyer of Sauerland Event and SES-Boxing. The ring for the showdown will be set up at O2 World Arena situated in Kreuzberg, Berlin, Germany and the rest of the fight card is still
under consideration.
Robert and Arthur recently met at a press conference in which the official announcement of the engagement was made. Both pugilists proudly reside in the top 10 World Boxing Organisation rankings and will present an epic showdown to remember.
Stieglitz, 30, has been in a total 44 bouts and emerged victorious in 42. The German proud has nailed 23 of his opponents by knockout and proudly resides at WBO’s fourth rank.
This will be the seventh time Robert will defend his WBO gold. Stieglitz grabbed the title from Karoly Balzsay by technically knocking him out in the 11th round since then he has defended it against many big and experienced names.
The orthodox Robert recently defended his title against Nader Hamdan, a brawl which he emphatically won by unanimous decision. Stieglitz was originally eyeballing Mikkel Kessler but due to an inadvertent injury sustained by the Danish proud, Robert yet again
had to scrap the engagement altogether.
During the media interaction, Robert shared his resolve to defend the title at all costs no matter where the ring is placed. Stieglitz stated, “That’s my belt and we are going to battle for it – in the end it will still be mine. I will prove that my championship
is legitimate, no matter of the opposition, time or place.”
His Saturday night opponent, Arthur, 32, though is slightly overshadowed by Robert’s resume yet has the ability, resilience, power and above all a decent intimidating resume to enter the ring and challenge the WBO champion.
Also known as ‘King Arthur’, Abraham has been in a total 37 bouts and boasts 34 wins. The Berliner has pinned a huge 27 opponents by knockout and possesses a pretty raw powered jab that can stun even the best men in the division.
In addition, Arthur resides at WBO’s eighth rank, not close to Robert, but still a respectable position for a quality pugilist. Abraham while sharing his excitement at entering the O2 arena for the second time stated, “I’m happy that this fight will take
place at O2 World. I was hoping for another chance to show my skills in this incredible arena in front of as many fans as possible. I am looking forward to entertain them again, like I did back in 2009 with my last round knockout against Jermain Taylor.”
The duo will definitely give a considerable tough time to each other as both men are considered the top super middleweights in Germany.
