Robert Thompson will be caddied by his wife Chris at Valhalla Golf Club
PGA Professional Robert Thompson and his wife, Chris will be returning to the Valhalla Golf Club for the 72nd Senior PGA Championship, which is the first major on the Champions Tour.
The defending champion of PGA National Championship will be returning to the venue with a slight change. After a gap of nine years, he will be accompanied by his wife Chris, who hails from Huntsville, Texas. In 2001, Chris walked
behind Thompson carrying his bags, when it was Thompson's debut appearance in the tournament.
The 54-year-old disclosed the name of his caddie on Tuesday, while registering her name for the event. He said that Chris was a veteran caddie, who knew all the protocols of being a caddie.
His statement was confirmed by Chris, who is an associate athletic director of student services at Sam Houston State. She said, “Having been a college coach and around athletics for as long as I have, I know when to pump up someone
and when to be quiet. Caddies have to pick and choose words carefully, I believe, and I understand how important it is for my husband and his passion for the game is so intense.”
Chris, who met Thompson at Sam Houston State thirty years back, added that her husband was very picky about golf as he had a sheer passion for the sport. She added that she would provide her services to the fullest to help him
in winning the title.
Thompson has been out of competitive golf since 2010 because of tendinitis in his left elbow. The veteran faced trouble in swinging the ball, thereby, he remained away from the course most of the summer, but with PGA Championship
approaching, he decided to risk his elbow.
Before incurring the problem, the veteran won Senior PGA Professional National Championship in the fall of last year. Courtesy to the confidence he earned from the victory, the veteran is all set to make the fourth appearance in
the event, which is considered as a flagship event on the tour that is played by professionals above the age of fifty.
The couple is all set to attract the camera flashes at Valhalla, as they are the only husband and wife playing in the Senior PGA Championship.
