Robert Thornton eyeing World Matchplay after UK Open triumph, the heat is on as World Matchplay ignites July 21!
After his groundbreaking debut at the UK Open, Robert Thornton is ready to take on the World Matchplay, starting from July 21.
It was a moment in history when Thornton defeated none other than Phil “The Power” Taylor in the UK Open final and stunned the audience worldwide. It was unbelievable as Taylor is the best there is when we speak on darts.
He won an impressive prize money amount of £40,000. His career has kicked off with a very high note after his win against a player, who is considered as the best darts player in the entire world.
Currently the UK Open champion has all his focus residing on qualifying for the World Matchplay. He is preparing hard and is crafting his talent to a point where he can repeat history once again.
“I'll be doing my best to get in the World Matchplay, and if it happens for me then it will be great,” said the UK Open champion.
It will not be easy, as he would face the best in the business and this time, they all have revenge in their mind.
Taylor has been quiet since his defeat and has taken it hard. His participation in the World Matchplay will have only one objective, facing Thornton.
Adrian Lewis will also re-ignite his latest rivalry against Simon Whitlock. The Australian whipped the world number 2 in the McCoy’s Premier League and threw him out of the tournament.

“The standard now is unbelievable and you can hit all the big scores you want, but if you don't hit those doubles you get nothing. I hit them last weekend and want to keep that going now,” said Thornton.
