Robert Wagner and Ina Teutenberg wins 2011 German Road Championships
Leopard Trek team’s Robert Wagner won the 2011 German Road Championships in Neuwied, on Sunday June 26.
Robert took a total of 4 hours, 43 minutes and 23 seconds to cover the distance of 208 kilometres.
Gerald Ciolek of the Quickstep Cycling team was the runner-up and John Degenkolb of HTC-Highroad was in the third spot.
After finishing the stage, Robert said, “That I ended up being the first over the finish line is as unbelieveable for me as it is for everyone else. In light of the many injuries and crashes that I had the last few months, I am simply overwhelmed that I
won here.”
In the first lap of the race the group of three riders made their first breakaway, which included Dani Westmattelmann (Eddy Merckx-Indeland Team), Yannick Bok (TT Raiko Argon 18) and Kim Lachmann (for you e.V.-Radsport).
All of them worked together and built an advantage of one minute over the peloton, but Bok dropped behind the race in the sixth lap.
After a few kilometres, a new grouped was formed, including Dominic Klemme (Leopard Trek), Michael Weicht (LKT Team Brandenburg) and Nils Plötner (Team Heizomat). The three riders were unable to maintain their one-minute lead.
After a few attacks, Jens Voigt tried his best to take the lead, but he failed and Wagner crossed the finish-line first ahead of other riders.
In the women category, HTC Highroad Women team’s Ina Teutenberg won 2011 German Road Championships and covered the distance of 112 kilometres with a timing of 2 hours, 48 minutes and 4 seconds.
Ina said, “With a lap and a half to go it was clear we were going to win. I told Judith she should get it because she had been stronger in the break. she said I should win because she'd already got a gold on Friday. At the end it didn't really matter, we
both had had the same idea."
Her team-mate, Judith Arndt, was the runner-up and Kupfernagel Hanka of Radsport Rhein finished third with a difference of 4 minutes and 42 seconds.
