Robert Wickens: I am pleased with what I achieved in day one of 2011 Young Driver Test – Formula 1
Formula Renault 3.5 Series driver Robert Wickens has said that he is pleased with what he achieved in day one of the 2011 Young Driver Test on Tuesday, November 15 at the Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi.
Wickens took part in the day one of the 2011 Young Driver Test and drove Formula 1 Lotus-Renault team. After driving for Renault, he finished his run at the third position in the end.
The Canadian impressed the team Renault, when he drove R31 car for them in Abu Dhabi in day one of the Young Driver Test.
After getting the results in the end of day one of the test, Wickens talked to the media and added that he is optimistic with his third position in the test and that he learned so much with everything during that. In addition, he stated that Lotus-Renault
GP did an amazing job and their car felt really fantastic to drive throughout the first day of test.
Apart from that, he mentioned about this chance that it has been fun for the drivers who took part in the test. He is very thankful to Lotus-Renault GP for the opportunity they gave him to drive for the team in the 2011 Young Driver Test.
The 22-year-old feels proud, as he said that he was able to drive in a car that put him towards the top of the grid. He added that before the starting of the test he was hoping to be in the top three for Lotus-Renault and to be third was really good for
him.
Wickens commented, “Obviously you can always find ways to improve but I’m sure that will come. I was surprised how different the Pirelli Prototype 2012 was compared to the normal 2011 tire – I did a long run at the end with heavy fuel and I was able to do
a very consistent 20 lap run towards the end of the day on the soft tire, which is a good sign for next year I think.”
On the other hand, Lotus-Renault GP’s engineering head Alan Permane stated that they are impressed with Wickens performance in day one of the Young driver Test.
He went on to mention, “Robert drove and worked well with the engineers and he gave us good feedback. It’s been a productive day.”
Let’s see whether Wickens again put the team in the top three positions in the day second and third of the 2011 Young Driver Test.
