Robert Zbogar and Sofija Djelic impress in swimming events: Day three – 2011 Slovenia SC Nationals
Robert Zbogar of GBR and Sofija Djelic of IL impressed the aquatic crowd by gaining gold medals of 50m butterfly in Men's and Women's category on third day of the 2011 Slovenia Short Course Nationals in Kranj, on Saturday, November 26.
The session included playoffs of 50m butterfly, 200m freestyle and 100m back-stroke in Men's and Women's corner. The 22-year-old Zbogar occupied the title of Men's 50m butterfly by submitting an effort of 24.28 seconds. He was trailed by Ziga Cerkovnik of W, who remained 0.67 seconds behind and concluded his swim in a second fastest time of 24.95 seconds.
The 17-year-old Cerkovnik remained 0.02 seconds ahead of his following swimmer Emil Tahirovic of TK who reached the podium for bronze medal by producing an effort of 24.97 seconds.
Next was the equivalent event in Women’s corner, where the 19-year-old Djelic proved her mettle for gold medal by clocking a time of 27.57 seconds. With her gold winning effort, she remained 0.22 seconds ahead of Nastja Govejsek of W, who ended her swim in a time of 27.79 seconds for silver medal.
The third spot of the race was secured by Pia Pavlic of TK, who remained 0.39 seconds slower and hit the finishing wall with a timing of 28.18 seconds.
The next event of the session was Men's 200m freestyle, where Anze Tavcar of IL showered his expertise. The 17-year-old Tavcar clinched gold medal of the event by posting a time of 1 minute and 51.64 seconds.
He was trailed by Martin Bau of BM, who remained 0.47 seconds slower from him and reached the podium for silver medal by posting an effort of 1 minute and 52.11 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Yuval Safra of Hapoel, who remained just 0.81 seconds away and emerged on the finishing end with the third fastest timing of 1 minute and 52.92 seconds.
Moments later, Anja Klinar of GBR earned gold medal of Women's 200m freestyle. The 23-year-old Klinar overwhelmed the efforts of her competitors and posted a time of 1 minute and 58.74 seconds for gold medal.
Her gold winning efforts remained 0.58 seconds ahead of Ursa Bezan of TK, who stepped on the podium for second position by submitting a time of 1 minute and 59.32 seconds.
She was traced by Mojca Sagmeister of FR, who pocketed bronze medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 01.24 seconds.
Meanwhile, Zbogar seized his second gold medal of the evening by acquiring the title of Men's 100m back-stroke with an effort of 56.43 seconds. He was trailed by Safra and Vid Velickovic, who won second and third position with timings of 58.23 and 59.71 seconds, respectively.
The arena went wild with the Alluring efforts of all podium finishers whereas medals were awarded to each winner after the session.
