Robert Blake's birth name was Michael James Vijencio Gubitosi. He started in films as Mickey Gubitosi. He appeared in 40 of the Our Gang short subjects between 1939 and 1944 and in 1942, acquired the stage name of Bobby  Blake. He was re-billed under the name Mickey Blake.

Some claim he played Spanky, but this is not true.
