Roberta Vinci blasts past Pauline Parmentier in round two - Toray Pan Pacific Open 2012
World number 16, Roberta Vinci, is looking to break more records this season as she sets her sight on another emphatic run in the singles category during the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo. She blasted through the French qualifier,
Pauline Parmentier, in the second round on Tuesday; registering straight sets score line of 6-3, 6-1.
It was the fourth meeting between the two athletes and the 26-year-old Frenchwoman was in the hunt to get off the mark against the 29-year-old Italian but she couldn’t resolve the mystery of Vinci and fell apart quite cheaply in
both sets.
The 16th ranked Italian started the proceedings with a serve hold and continued to bamboozle her opponent with a mixed shot selection featuring some perfectly paced drop shots to classic winners down the line. She bagged
the breakpoint to make it 3-1 in her favour and another one in the following return game to scuttle past her opponent with a stupendous lead of 5-1.
Parmentier was already quite tired from the two qualifying matches and a first round match as well. So, she didn’t work hard to keep the set alive; just won a single breakpoint back that helped her to post a respectable score of
6-3 in the opening set. It was a one-sided show from the Italian superstar who was absolutely rocking the show in all departments.
The 76th ranked French failed to hold serve in the first game of the second set and couldn’t perform the basics right in the second serve game that allotted a monumental lead of 0-3 to her rival. Vinci made no mistake
in capitalizing on the gift from her rival and made it 4-0 in her favour. The Italian allowed just one serve hold to her rival before making grabbing on to the third breakpoint in the seventh game of the set. It was the final action from the encounter.
Roberta Vinci is scheduled to lock horns against the top seed superstar, Victoria Azarenka, who is in a terrific run of form having reached the final of the US Open Championship earlier this month.
