Roberta Vinci progresses into the semi-final of 2011 Barcelona Ladies Open
Sixth seed Roberta Vinci defeated Virginie Razzano of France to advance to the quarterfinal of the 2011 Barcelona Ladies Open. Vinci was barely troubled as she romped to a 6-4, 6-1 victory in just over an hour and thirty minutes.
Razzano was a favourite, considering her last performance at the tournament in 2007, where she reached the semi-final before losing to Edina Gallovits-Hall of Romania 6-3, 6-4. Razzano will definitely be very disappointed with her play as she has a lot of
points to defend this summer and this was not a good start for the Frenchwoman.
Vinci’s return of the serves was working very well in the first set as she got 58 percent of points in the first set. Also her serve was pretty good as she earned 61 percent of points on her 51 percent first serves and took the
opener 6-4. The Italian pro was far more consistent on her serve whereas her opponent had a sloppy start to the game. Razzano served 65 percent of her first serves, which were really very good for the Frenchwoman, but even those serves she hit in the set,
didn’t help her to win it. The Italian pro didn’t have any problems to take the first set as she scored 18 percent points more than her opponent to post her win with a 6-4 score line.
The 28-year-old Vinci kept her winning moment from the beginning to the end as she got the break in the very first game and took the lead. The Italian was on fire as she won first four games in a row with her ferocious one-handed
backhand. The French pro was trying hard to hold her back. However she managed to break her serve in the fifth game but now it was too late as the Italian had already sealed the set by winning the next two games to take the lead 6-1. Vinci also earned an amazing
63 percent on return and 55 percent on service. The Italian pro completely outshined Razzano in every field of game and scored 18 percent points more than her opponent to take the match in straight sets.
Razzano stood no chance and handed over the match to her Italian opponent with a loss of twelve games. Vinci on the other hand confirmed her favourite role and will face either Slovenian Polona Hercog or Laura Pous Tio of Spain
in the semi-final of the tournament.
Sara Errani of Italy and Lucie Hradecka of Czech Republic both advanced to the semi-final of the tournament.
