Roberta Vinci vs Timea Babos – Second Round Preview: Budapest Grand Prix 2011
Number one seed Roberta Vinci of Italy will be taking on local Timea Babos on Thursday for a place in the quarterfinal at the 2011 POLI-FARBE Budapest Grand Prix in Hungary.
Ranked 25th in the Women’s Tennis Association rankings, Vinci has been in decent form over the last few months. Vinci started the year on a positive note as she reached the quarterfinal at Hobart. At 2011 Pattaya City
she ousted number two seed and former world number one Ana Ivanovic en route to the semi-final. She had a decent clay court season as she lifted her fourth WTA title of her career at 2011 Barcelona Open. Her impressive run on the WTA tour continued at the
green surface as well as she begged her fifth WTA title at 2011 UNICEF Open defeating Jelena Dokic in the final.
She will be hoping to continue her incredible form here on the red dirt of Hungary, however, she must try and bring more consistency into her game play to yield similar results as she showed signs of fatigue at Wimbledon Championships
just a couple of weeks back.
Vinci booked her second round spot with a destructive 6-1, 6-0 victory over Lenka Jurikova. The Italian looked in commanding form as she timed her big forehand and backhand winners to perfection. Vinci has a great clay court game
and she has proved in the past that she can down even the best in the business on her favourite surface.
Her opponent Timea Babos is ranked 231st in the world rankings and she is still very new to the WTA arena. However her most recent victory over Anna-Giulia Remondina goes on to suggest that she has the abilities and
skills to survive at the top level.
Babos has been giving considerable results on the ITF circuit for the last couple of years. Her most recent ITF success was recorded at the Stuttgart-Vaihingen Challenger series in Germany, where she defeated Korina Perkovic in
the final.
This is the first meeting between the two players on the WTA tour. Winner of five WTA titles, Vinci has strong and impressive record on the clay as both of her titles this year have come on the red surface. The 28-year-old Italian
turned professional in 1999 and since then she has earned valuable international experience.
Going into the match, she will certainly be the favourite to seal victory in straight sets. Babos, on the other hand, possess a very deep forehand shot and if she can get her serves right, she could cause some real threats for
the top seeded Italian.
Prediction: Roberta Vinci is expected to sail through in straight sets.
