Roberto Bautista-Agut disposes of Guillermo Alcaide in the opening round – Open Castilla y Leon 2011 CH
Unseeded Spaniard, Roberto Bautista-Agut, cleared the opening round of Open Castilla y Leon by defeating his fellow compatriot, Guillermo Alcaide, on Wednesday afternoon.
The contest was featured on the hard courts of Segovia, Spain, with the two local competitors battling it hard to get a spot in the second round of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Challenger Tour event. Bautista-Agut
exhibited his magnificent tennis skills to wrap up the three-setter at 6-1, 6-7(2), 7-6(2), taking two hours and six minutes of play to book a berth in the next round of the tournament.
The contest took off sluggishly from Alcaide, who dropped the opening set in a humiliating manner but made a very strong comeback to win the second set tie breaker round to level the game with one set a piece. However, Bautista-Agut
manoeuvred his way to victory after a stiff competition in the final set and disposed off his fellow countryman from the tournament.
Alcaide fired 13 aces in the matchup but in the meanwhile, coughed six costly double faults as well to award some easy points to his opponent at crucial moments in the game. The Spaniard wildcard secured 52 out of 64 first serve
points, while Bautista-Agut followed him with 42 out of 50 points to win the contest in the end.
The opening set all belonged to Bautista-Agut, whose belligerence absolutely blew away Alcaide in the set. The Spaniard nailed two consecutive serve breaks straight away and rocketed away to 5-0 lead in no time. He closed out the
first set at 6-1 to get one up in the contest and it appeared as if Alcaide is simply no match for the unseeded Spanish.
Alcaide hung in the second set and allowed no break points to his opponent to drag the set into a tie breaker round. Bautista-Agut bagged just two points in the decider before submitting the second set to Alcaide at 6-7(2), with
the match been evenly poised at one set a piece.
The final set was a complete replication of the second one, except for Alcaide crumbling this time round. Bautista-Agut gave no chance to his opponent and quickly wrapped up the decider at 7-6(2), to advance to the second round
of the tournament. He will take on Henri Kontinen of Finland in the next round for a place in the semi-finals of Open Castilla y Leon. Kontinen stood victorious against the eighth seeded French, Kenny De Schepper in the first round encounter.
