Roberto Bautista-Agut exits to Facundo Arguello in opening round – Copa Sevilla 2012 CH
Top seed, Roberto Bautista-Agut, crashed out to the Argentinean challenger, Facundo Arguello, in brutal straight sets at the Copa Sevilla 2012 on Tuesday. He suffered a 4-6, 2-6 loss at the hands of the world number 212 in the opening round at this ATP (Association
of Tennis Professionals) Challenger Tour event held in Seville, Spain.
The crowd favourite lost the opening game of both sets and ultimately suffered the disappointing defeat. After two hours and six-minute venture, Bautista-Agut exited from this outdoor clay court event with regret. The Argentine on the other hand secured
a place in the pre-quarters where Netherlands’ Jesse Huta Galung awaits.
Bautista-Agut made a drastic entry at the Real Club de Tenis Betis. He suffered the initial blow in the opening game and fell at 0-2. Apart from plucking his following serves, the Spaniard failed to cash in any of the three break opportunities he sought
and endured a 4-6 defeat.
Ranked 89th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Bautista-Agut carried his poor ways in the following set. He managed to come on the score sheet after losing the opening four games. The Spaniard again squandered all three break
chances and recorded a 2-6 loss.
Summing up the top seed’s performance, Bautista-Agut spilled more double faults and brushed off only two out of five breakpoints he faced. He also produced a lower first serve share of 57 per cent as compared to the Argentine’s 72 per cent and availed only
22 out of 34 points on it.
Arguello will face off the Dutch contender, Jesse Huta Galung, who battled past Czech Republic’s Michal Konecny in three sets to set up this meeting.
The eighth seed, Nicolas Devilder, face a better fortune later that day. He battled past the local challenger, Agustin Boje-Ordonez, in a three-set thriller to progress. The French seed lost five games in a row to lose the second set with a breadstick. However,
he required a single break of serve in the final set to clobber a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 score line.
Next up for Devilder is Serbia’s Boris Pasanski in the pre-quarters.
