Roberto Bautista-Agut outshines Romain Jouan in first round – Madrid Challenger 2011
Spanish tennis pro Roberto Bautista-Agut defeated Frenchman Romain Jouan 6-2, 6-4 on Tuesday to reach the second round of 2011 Madrid Challenger here in Madrid, Spain. Bautista-Agut looked in terrific form in a match that lasted
for only 1 hour and 14 minutes on the hard courts of Madrid.
Making most of the available opportunities in the match, the Spaniard converted three out of four break points in the match. Saving all three break points against himself, he displayed some high quality defence. Serving with control
and accuracy, he had no problems holding on to his service games. Breaking the serve early in the opening set, he dented his opponent confidence levels to take a crucial 4-2 lead.
Showing great composure, Bautista-Agut held on to his next service game to earn an impassable 5-2 lead. Making his second serve break of the set in eight game, he took the set score lead.
The second set also followed a pretty similar trend as both players looked to penetrate one another’s game play. Jouan, who was quite brilliant in the qualifier, raised the level of his game and he smashed a ferocious forehand
winner down the line to even the game score 3-3.
Ranked 183rd in the Association of Tennis Professionals rankings, Bautista-Agut on the other hand concentrated on his own game play and he hit his third break of serve to take a crucial 4-3 lead. Holding on to his next
service games, the Spaniard complete his straight sets victory to move ahead at the tournament.
Looking in great touch, Bautista-Agut will be hoping to continue his impressive run on the red clay courts of Madrid to claim his first title of the season. However, to achieve similar results against top seeded players, he must
try and bring more consistency into his game play. Jouan, on the other hand, will look to learn from his mistakes and is expected to come back strongly on his next appearance on tour.
