Roberto Carballes Baena, Oriol Roca Batalla qualify for the third round – French Open 2011
Roberto Carballes Baena ousts Sean Berman 6-3, 7-6(4)
Fifth seed Roberto Carballes Baena of Spain overcame Sean Berman of Australia in straight sets 6-3, 7-6(4) in the second round of boys’ singles event at French Open in Paris on Monday. The Spaniard took an hour and 39 minutes to
oust his opponent.
Berman was the first to take lead as he broke Carballes Baena in the first game of the opening set and held his serve in the next game to go ahead 2-0. The Spaniard came back fighting and captured six of the next seven games to
clinch the set 6-3.
Carballes Baena hit one ace and 61 percent of the first deliveries in the opening set. The Spaniard claimed 79 percent of the first service points and committed a single double fault in the first set. The 18-year-old won two of
the four break points he received and saved two of the three break points he faced in the opening set.
In the second set, Carballes Baena and Berman broke each other twice to tie the score at 6-6 and forced a tie-break. The Spaniard dominated the tie-break and won it 7-4.
The right-handed fired two aces and 67 percent of the first serves, sealing the same percentage of points on them in the second set. The Spaniard claimed 43 percent of the receiving points in the second set.
Carballes Baena is drawn to take on Mate Delic of Croatia in the third round.
Oriol Roca Batalla defeats Andrew Whittington 6-1, 6-0
Spanish Oriol Roca Batalla upset eighth seed Andrew Whittington of Australian in straight sets 6-1, 6-0 to proceed to the third round. The match lasted for just 49 minutes.
Roca Batalla crushed Whittington as he allowed the Australian to win only a single game in the first set, breaking him twice to claim the set 6-1.
The Spaniard kept his first serve percentage at 68 percent and bagged 77 percent of the points on the first serve in the opening set. The 18-year-old amazingly converted 100 percent of the second serves into points in the first
set. Roca Batalla capitalised on two of the four break point opportunities he created and did not face any break point on his own serve in the opening set.
The right-handed was almost flawless in the second set as he did not drop a single game, breaking his opponent three times and wining a bagel set 6-0. The Spaniard won a total of 25 points compared to only 10 by his opponent in
the second set. The unseeded succeeded in converting all the three break point chances he received in the second set.
Roca Batalla is slated to play Joao Pedro Sorgi of Brazil in the round of 16.
