Roberto Carlos apologises to the Anzhi Makhachkala fans after CSKA Moscow loss
In the aftermath of Anzhi Makhachkala’s 5-3 home defeat against CSKA Moscow, Roberto Carlos, Anzhi’s caretaking head coach, has apologised to the fans and expressed his frustration on the series of laggard league performances.
The match started off well for the home team and they managed to take the lead in the 4th minute, but the visitors were invigorated by the early strike and scored five goals in response. Anzhi managed to score two consolation goals in the dying
moment of the match.
After the resignation of long-serving coach, Gadzhi Gadzhiev, Andrei Gordeyev and Carlos took charge of the vacant managerial position on temporary basis at the Dagestani club.
Things turned out to be worse for the Dagestani club as they failed to live up to the expectations despite hefty cash injections made by the club president, Suleyman Kerimov.
In a short time span, Kerimov has heavily invested in bringing Samuel Eto’o, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mbark-Boussoufa-c25085 and Balazs Dzsudzsak to the Russian top division.
Having claimed nine points from last nine league games, the club have failed to meet the fans’ expectations until now.
Speaking on his post match press conference, Carlos said:
“In the first 20 minutes, the team played really well, we created chances. Usually, you have to score the second goal just to kill the game but we failed to do score anymore goals. In short, it was necessary to decide the outcome of this meeting in the first
half.”
The former Real Madrid player added: “First of all we need to think about our fans because we want to please them. I want to apologise to them. We must now concentrate on preparing for the next two matches. If we want a decent spot, we need to sort out our
mistakes.”
CSKA manager Leonid Slutsky lamented the Anzhi defence and admitted that the sloppy defending provided the Koni strikers with enough room to attack.
The UEFA Super Cup winner remained tight-lipped over remarks made by the opposition head coach. Carlos admitted that Anzhi are lacking self confidence and urged his teammates to concentrate on the upcoming league tie against Amkar Perm.
