The Italian delivered his first trophy to the Blues, after defeating http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 in the FA Cup final at Wembley. That is not the end of it for Di Matteo, he has further chance at glory, with Chelsea having made it to the UEFA Champions League final.
Even though the Blues will have to wait until the 19th of May to find out if they have what it takes to win the UEFA Champions League, according to Di Matteo the team’s ego and confidence has been restored. He revealed he had done that by ensuring
the player’s of their abilities after Andre Villas-Boas was sacked.
Di Matteo said in an interview:
“Every victory has just cemented their confidence. We have rolled on from one win to the next and our belief and confidence increased with each one.”
Di Matteo admitted things could have gone wrong for him if he had been unable to lead the Blues to the FA Cup final, with his first game coming against Birmingham City in the fifth round of the FA Cup. He revealed how his first game had set the tone for
the way things were going to be at the club.
He revealed:
“That was a crucial game for us. It was my first game but if we hadn't won it could have gone completely the other way.
It was important to get that first win to instil a little bit of belief and confidence. That was a very important game.”
After a terrific start to the season under young manager Andre Villas-Boas, the Blues suffered a mid-season slump and found themselves out of the top four spot. Di Matteo admitted it had been difficult bringing up the team, but they had done well with their
hard work and effort under the former Chelsea player.
Di Matteo continued:
“We have had a very difficult season this year.
But there is a lot of quality and ambition in this team. In adversity it comes out.”
