http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 caretaker manager, will have selection problems ahead of the UEFA Champions League final due to injuries and suspensions.
The Italian’s biggest problem will be in defence, with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raul-Meireles-c30678
and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Florent-Malouda-c13838 injured.
Di Matteo could be forced to depend on youngsters to deliver in the final since the aforementioned senior players have been ruled out. From the team that played in 2008 Champions League final against Manchester United, only four players will be included
this time around.
Di Matteo said in an interview:
“This will be one shot and, with all the problems we have, it's causing me a headache.”
Having previously made it to the final once before in 2008, Di Matteo did not think the players would need extra motivation for the final. He revealed he did not have to worry about making sure the squad was ready for the clash against Bayern Munich.
He said:
“I don't think any of our players will need extra motivation for a game like this. From that point of view, it'll be easy.”
As for favourites for the match, Di Matteo revealed that while he felt Bayern Munich had the home advantage, he was not certain if that would necessarily work in their favour. Since it was their home ground, Bayern Munich would be under more pressure to
secure a win.
The Chelsea manager continued:
“They know the pitch, and that could give them a little advantage. But, on the other side, they might have a bit of extra pressure because they're at home.
I'm not sure if it is an advantage or not.”
Roberto Di Matteo urged his players not to take the Bayern Munich squad lightly, since it was a group of highly successful individuals. They had defeated Real Madrid to make it to the final, which made them a team to be reckoned with.
The Italian added:
“I don't think it's quite as easy and straightforward as that.
They have a lot of great players.”
