Roberto Di Matteo urges West Bromwich Albion to keep toiling
Roberto Di Matteo, manager of West Bromwich Albion, has said that there is no secret to his team's successes this season, adding that they will continue to work hard to keep up their strong form.
After suffering a 6–0 defeat by Chelsea in the opening round of the league, West Brom has moved fromstrength to strength.
Di Matteo's team has defeated title-contenders Arsenal and Manchester City, and sat at fourth place in the table before the former defeated the latter in Manchester on Sunday, 24 October.
"People joked about where we were in the table on Saturday, that we were in the final Champions League spot. But we have to keep our feet on the ground. I do it, and we have to remind the players about it," the Italian said, emphasizing that his team must
remain focused to keep up their performances.
"The fans and the media can get excited if they want to. But we will carry on with our work and now prepare for the cup tie."
West Brom travels to face Leicester, who recently appointed former City and England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson as manager, in the Carling Cup on Tuesday, 26 October, before resuming their league campaign against newcomers Blackpool next week.
Di Matteo, who played for Chelsea during his professional career, said West Brom's successes this season will come as a result of the hard work the team has proved themselves capable of turning in so far.
"What has happened so far this season is beyond my expectations. But we deserve the points we have on the board in the Premier League with the way we are playing. I've no idea if we can keep it going and we will see at the end of the season where we stand.
There is no secret formula. It's down to hard work and we try and play football and believe that is the way to win games."
