http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 boss, has urged the club not to expect radical changes following his appointment as the permanent manager.
After leading the Blues to the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League last season, Di Matteo was confirmed as the permanent manager at the club. The Italian was initially appointed as the caretaker manager at the club under then manager Andre Villas-Boas.
Andre Villas-Boas was sacked mid-season, in March, following poor results in the Premier League and the cup competitions. Di Matteo took over as the caretaker manager and did well to earn a permanent appointment for the following season.
Even though Chelsea went on to win the Champions League for the very first time and also managed to win the FA Cup, they finished outside the top four in the Premier League. Di Matteo’s aim this season will be to improve their form in the Premier League.
However, the Italian felt the process could be time consuming and not something that could be achieved overnight. Di Matteo said while speaking to reporters:
“I don't think it will be an overnight thing. I wouldn't expect radical changes. I would like us to be a good team that can compete and always in the frame for the targets this club has.”
In fact, Di Matteo did not even feel his side needed many changes, having shown they had the ability to do well in tough situations. He revealed he was planning to continue doing things they way he had last season since it seemed to work well for the team.
He said:
“I don't see any reason to change. I am the way I am - this is me. The way I operate is me and that's not going to change in the future. I have my way to communicate with the players and I will continue with that.”
The former West Bromwich Albion boss admitted expectations had changed since the Blues lifted the European trophy, but felt the players could cope with the new pressures.
Di Matteo admitted:
“Having won the European title might bring some expectations, yes, but I think it's a club that has always had expectations. That is nothing new for our players.”
