Di Matteo said while speaking to reporters:
“I have a big drive and a big motivation to do something extraordinary for this club. That's all I want to do.
Whatever comes afterwards, there's always a reason why things happen.”
Di Matteo was not as concerned as securing the position as manager on a permanent basis as he was about making history with the club. According to the Italian, he had not been in touch with Abramovich regarding his future since he did not have time.
He revealed:
“This game can decide the history of our football club. It would be the first time we would win the European Champions League.
That's all that matters and all we're thinking about and focusing on.”
Di Matteo confirmed he was currently focused entirely on leading the Blues to victory in the UEFA Champions League; especially since he was confident they could go on to win it. According to him, the squad needed confidence and self belief going into the
game, which would ensure a solid performance and a decent chance to win the Champions League title for the very first time.
The Chelsea caretaker manager continued:
“It's a massive game, a big game for the club, a big game for our players. I'm not suggesting it's just another game.
We have to go into it with the knowledge we have the quality and experience to win it.”
