Roberto Ferrari of Team Androni Giocattoli wins the 11th stage of the Giro d’ Italia 2012
Roberto Ferrari of Team Androni Giocattoli opened his 2012 Giro account after his splendid performance during the 243 kilometre stage 11 of the race.
The cyclist rode brilliantly during the event and helped his team with an important victory at the race.
He completed the chase to Montecatini Terme in a quickest time of 6 hours, 49 minutes and 5 seconds and occupied the top podium spot.
Francesco Chicchi of Team Omega Pharma-Quickstep, Tomas Vaitkus of Team Orica-GreenEdge and Mark Cavendish of Team Sky finished at the second, the third and the fourth spots.
Manuel Belletti of Team AG2R La Mondiale, Giacomo Nizzolo of Team RadioShack-Nissan, Daniel Schorn of Team NetApp and Arnaud Demare of Team FDJ-Big Mat achieved the next four positions.
The Italian was delighted with the stage victory, “This is the victory of a lifetime! Winning a stage in the Giro is the best thing for an Italian rider,” he briefed.
He continued, “And then I wanted to redeem myself after what had happened in the early stages. I beat Cavendish?”
“I am glad, he did not believe in me ... But the only thing that counts for me is that today is a great day”.
The 29-year-old is having a good season and has already filled his bag with numerous victories in the current season.
He claimed the first spot at the Route Adélie, Fleche d’Emeraude and succeeded during the fifth stage of the Tour de Taiwan 2012.
Roberto Ferrari of Team Androni Giocattoli achieved 25 points after the stage win while Francesco Chicchi, Thomas Vaitkus and Mark Cavendish claimed 20, 16 and 15 points respectively.
Olivier Kaisen of Team Lotto Belisol, Roberto Ferrari of Team Androni Giocattoli and Francesco Chicchi of Team Omega Pharma-QuickStep were the top three most combative cyclists of the race.
Joaquim Rodriguez of Team Katusha is leading the stage 11 classifications with a convincing margin of 17 seconds over Ryder Hesjedal of Team Garmin-Barracuda.
Paolo Tiralongo of Team Astana is further 15 seconds behind at the third position with his team-mate Roman Kreuziger holding the fourth spot.
Benat Intxausti Elorriaga of Team Movistar, Ivan Basso of Team Liquigas-Cannondale and Damiano Caruso of Team Liquigas-Cannondale hold the fifth, the sixth and the seventh positions in the respective order.
