Roberto Ferrari to apologize Mark Cavendish after the stage 3 crash
Roberto Ferrari was involved in a massive crash that injured a number of cyclists during the stage 3 of the Giro d’ Italia 2012.
UCI World Road Race Champion, Mark Cavendish was going at a lightning speed of 75 km/h and was badly injured after Ferrari changed his line of sprint.
Mark won the stage 2 of the Giro d’ Italia and was looking good to increase his overall position but the crash ruined his chances for general classifications spot.
Cavendish shared his disappointed after Ferrari’s sprint and posted on his twitter page, "Ouch! Crashing at 75kph isn't nice! Nor is seeing Roberto Ferrari's manoeuvre. Should be ashamed to take out Pink, Red & World Champ jerseys".
“Apparently Roberto Ferrari has said to journalists, when asked about the incident, that he can't see what happens behind him & doesn't care".
"Is the team of Roberto Ferrari or the UCI going to do the right thing? Other riders, including myself".
Taylor Phinney was also badly injured after the crash and was immediately transported to the hospital.
The cyclist was lucky to have survived any major injuries and was freed by the doctors after several stitches on his elbow.
However, it is now believed that Ferrari will make a public apology to Mark Cavendish before the start of stage 4.
The team confirmed that the cyclist will apologise to Cavendish in front of the media.
"After getting over the nervous tension of the race, Roberto Ferrari has declared he will publicly apologize to Mark Cavendish and to the other riders involved in the fall at the end of stage 3", the team statement reads.
Team Sky Doctors noted that Cavendish is not seriously injured and will resume the race at the coming stages.
The reigning UCI Road World Champion is now eyeing the 32.2 kilometre stage 4 of the Giro d’ Italia.
It will be interesting to see how Mark rides at the coming stages of the race as the Manxman has already shown superb form in the opening stages of the race.
He is 27 seconds behind the race leader and currently holds the 13th overall spot after the stage 3 classifications.
