Roberto Ferrari wins the fifth stage of the Tour De Taiwan 2012
Roberto Ferrari of Team Androni Giocattoli has claimed his first win of the 2012 season in style. He succeeded during the fifth stage of the Tour De Taiwan.
The cyclist cruised across the finish-line in the fastest time of 3 hours, 12 minutes and 30 seconds to claim his first victory of the season.
Lucas Sebastian Haedo of Team Saxo Bank and Anthony Giacoppo of Team Genesys Wealth Advisers achieved the second and the third positions in the respective order.
Jonathan Cantwell, Antonio Santoro and Dirk Muller claimed the next three positions during the 150 kilometre stage 5 of the race.
Robert started his professional hunt with Team Tenax back in 2006-2007, and joined Team LPR Brakes-Ballan for the 2008-09 seasons.
He penned a deal with Team De Rosa-Stac Plastic in 2010 and finally joined Team Androni Giocattoli in 2011.
The 29-year-old was impressive during his first season with the team. He claimed the first and the third stages of the Tour de San Luis.
Ferrari finished second during the GP Costa degli Etruschi and fifth during the Tour of Turkey 2011.
He was delighted after grabbing his first victory of the season and thanked his team-mates for their endless support throughout the race.
Robert noted, “To say that I’m ready for the Giro now is a big call. My form is good now. It’s important to arrive at a stage race and be competitive from the start”.
“I came here to deliver results. Unfortunately, in the past two stages, I only managed to come second, that’s certainly not what a sprinter likes. But today, the finale suited my characteristics much more,” he concluded.
Abbas Tanha Saeidi of Azad University Cross Team and Lee Rodgers of RTS Racing Team succeeded during the first and the second sprints of the day.
Rhys Pollock of Drapac Cycling team is currently leading the stage five classifications. Kam Po Wong of Hong Kong Team is 2 seconds behind at the second spot.
Dirk Muller, Taiji Nishitani and Anthony Giacoppo are at the third, fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
With two more stages to go, Pollock is certainly keen to strengthen his lead at the overall classifications.
He is eyeing the overall spot at the final general classifications to grab his first overall victory at the Tour De Taiwan.
