Roberto Garcia declines to go against Mark Melligen – Boxing news
The American national Orthodox stance professional boxer, Roberto Garcia, has declined to go against the Filipino Southpaw stance Mark Jason Melligen.
The 31-year-old, Garcia nicknamed La Amenaza was scheduled to take on the 25-year-old Welterweight Melligen in their 10-round competitive bout on July 1, 2011 at the Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio, Texas.
Garcia has now publicly taken off his interest from this bout.
Both the fighters were listed as the possible opposition to go against under ESPN2 Friday Night Fights card. Promotional company Top Rank was handling the event to make it possible for the boxing fans.
The assistant trainer of Melligen Edward Martin believes that there has been nothing wrong with this bout but the reason of Garcia’s withdrawal is that he is scared to go against Melligen.
Martin mentioned, “We think he is just scared because he knows he is going to lose, whose father Tony is Melligen's chief trainer.”
Melligen, who has been the Super Middleweight, Middleweight, Light Middleweight, Welterweight contender, fought 31 of his total fights of which he won 28 competitive bouts (21 wins by scoring knockouts) with 3 losses and no draw to his professional career.
Garcia has won 21 out of 23 competitive bouts including 14 knockout wins against best fighters with 2 losses and no draw to his career.
According to Martin, it has become a tough task to find the next possible opponent for Melligen after his last fight when Melligen won unanimous decision against Gabriel Martinez on February 19, 2011 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas United
States.
It is expected that the Filipino star will be fighting against Kermit Cintron as his next opponent. The negotiations with Cintron, who is the former welterweight titlist, are on the way.
Possibly the results will be positive in the favour of Melligen. If both the fighters agree to the terms and conditions of the fight contract, the fight will be aired on July 9, 2011 under the Brandon Rios vs. Urbano Antillon fight card.
