Roberto Luongo and Tim Thomas to stick to own styles in Vancouver Canucks vs. Boston Bruins Game 4
Game 4 between Vancouver Canucks and Boston Bruins of the 2011 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Finals is scheduled to be played on Wednesday at the TD Centre in Boston, Massachusetts. The anticipation of the much important game has resulted in many
rumours floating around the hockey world.
Since Canucks lost in Game 3 against Boston Bruins in an embarrassing 8-1 loss, its veteran goalie, Roberto Luongo, is speculated to try a different defensive style for Game 4 and that is not only him, the same word is spreading about Bruins goalie, Tim
Thomas, as well.
"If you look at his stats, I think after a game like this, which has happened before, he's usually extremely good", Canucks’ captain, Henrik Sedin, said. "Nothing falls on his shoulders. We didn't play good enough as a team and he's a guy back there that's
going to have bad stats tonight, but the team in front of him wasn't good enough".
After confirmation, both goalies had said that they are sticking to their own styles and have not planned on making any changes.
"I've been through it a few times in my career", Luongo said with a chuckle after hearing about speculations about his nosedive in Game 3. "So I know what I need to do, and I'll be ready for Game 4."
Both, Luongo and Thomas, are the best goalies in the league so far.
Luongo leads in the playoffs with three shutout wins and 14 wins in total while Thomas is right behind him with 2 and 13 in the respective categories.
Thomas is ahead of Luongo in terms of saves percentage, but it is almost too little of a difference to actually be considered while comparing the two star goalies. Bruins veteran goalkeeper has a .938 saves percentage while Luongo boasts a .928%.
Game 4 will certainly prove to be a new test for both experienced goaltenders but some of the weight will also be on the offensive end to score some goals because there is only so much a single person can do in trying to defend the net, especially in a series
like this one.
