Roberto Luongo looking to return to Florida Panthers the place where he became a star
Roberto Luongo, a Canadian professional goaltender, who currently plays for Florida Panthers in the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL), if changed his team, would like to return to the team which made him popular and a star, Florida Panthers.
33-year-old Luongo was Canucks’ first choice goaltender until he was replaced by Cory Schneider and there are even chances that he would be traded. And he has expressed feelings that he would like to be traded to Florida Panthers in such a case.
Talking to the Sun-Sentinel Newspaper, Luongo revealed that it was a very tough season for him as he did not know what was going to happen with him and he was not sure about it. He told that having a family and with this type of uncertainties is always a
very tricky thing and also there were very painful moments in the previous season, as he said,
"It's been a tough summer, not knowing what's going to happen. It's tough to not know what your future is going to be with your family and everything. There were a couple of stressful moments, but we're still here and everything's good”.
The Montreal, Quebec native also stated that he and his family has got great affiliation with Florida and that makes them the favourite but he did not rule out any other possibilities, as he said,
"[The Panthers] makes sense for myself, for my career and my family. That being said, there's obvious other options as well. This is a preferred location for obvious reasons, but I'm not shutting the door on other possibilities if it comes up."
But still there are things which may become obstacles in his trade to Florida Panthers as he has got a contract of 10 years with Vancouver Canucks, for which he is being paid around $5.3 million every year, an amount which Florida may not like not pay for
a player who is going towards an end of his career.
Luongo has got a great record as a goalie and also has won numerous laurels with Team Canada, like 2010 Winter Olympics Gold and 2003, 2004 World Championship.
