Roberto Luongo ready to make comeback to Vancouver Canucks if all options fail -NHL Update
If all other options fail, including the trading of veteran goalie Roberto Luongo, than he has no issues in returning to play with the Vancouver Canucks next National Hockey League (NHL) regular season, the net minder said on Wednesday, September 12, 2012.
The news might come as a surprise to some as analysts had expected the veteran to exhaust all options before having to return to the Vancouver Canucks due to the bitter attitude that had developed over the offseason as the two stakeholders barely spoke directly and had been communicating through headlines.
"Two months ago, after what had just happened and [Schneider] had just signed, I didn't really see myself being here," Luongo said at the annual golf charity event of the Vancouver Canucks. "But I realized once we got into August that was a possibility and I was OK with that."
One thing that Luongo will not have to worry about in any case is getting a deal signed since the veteran is secure for another 10 years left on his contract and with an annual salary cap hit of $5.33 million, there is nothing to worry about for him.
There is also a no-trade clause condition in the goalies contract and according to sources, he is willing to lift it if required and a trade comes into play.
"I pretty much stand the same where I left off," Luongo said. "I said I would be willing to lift my no-trade clause if asked, and so far I haven't been asked, so I'm here."
One thing that was widely believed by the media was that Luongo had prepared a list of potential teams that were acceptable to him for the upcoming regular season, but during the event on Wednesday, the goalie termed that to be completely false and nothing of that nature existed.
For him, that would be “disrespectful” towards the team he has served for many years and led to the Stanley Cup Finals back in 2011 and for them, there is nothing wrong with the goalie but it was something that just eventually developed between the two.
