Roberto Luongo ready to take Vancouver Canucks back to Stanley Cup Finals -NHL News Update
After a close seven-game 2011 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Final series earlier in July, Roberto Luongo was inches away from leading Vancouver Canucks to their first championship in history of the franchise. Unfortunately, they lost against Boston
Bruins, but Luongo has high hopes for the new season.
Expressing his optimism on Thursday, October 6, before his teams’ season opener against Pittsburgh Penguins, Roberto Luongo knows that there is a lot of pressure on his club and he is willing to help lead them there again.
“No matter what happened last year, this is the game I love and the game I love to play”, Luongo said. “I want to get back at it as soon as possible. It’s fun being around the guys again, doing what I love”.
For the 32-year-old veteran, the preseason and the opening month of October of the regular season have not always been that good for him throughout his career, regarding it as something which takes time getting used to, Luongo thinks he should not be judged
until later on.
"I've had some good pre-seasons in the past and it didn't necessarily translate into a good start. I made sure this week I kept on working on those things and making sure I felt good about my game", Luongo added.
Vancouver Canucks head coach, Alain Vigneault, certainly has hope in his goaltender and knows that he will not let the team down.
"I think he's aware of his past history here", Vigneault said. "He's trying like everybody else. When you are aware of the situation you try and deal with it. You try and correct it”.
Coming out of their best seasons in franchise history and making it to the Stanley Cup Finals after nearly 20 years, Vancouver Canucks know that the pressure is on them to rewrite history this time around.
Boston Bruins are also on the run to defend their cup along with a number of other teams who are eyeing the most coveted prize in the hockey world, making the 2011-2012 NHL regular season a must follow for any fan out there.
